Tariq.B is a young, up-and-coming musician currently in the southwest of England. He has a varied and extensive musical education - having lived in Asia for a large part of his youth - and has grown up around an ecclectic musical culture. Primarily a singer-songwriter, he also branches out into traditional Indian and fusion music with his sitar.
He started his live music career in Birmingham, with funk-rock band The Funk Pumpkins. They quickly gained a cult following in the West Midlands music scene, and played at a variety of renowned venues such as the O2 Academy Birmingham. He has made solo appearances at the Calstock Jazz & Blues Fest, the Hub in Plymouth, and featured in the band Neon Safari at the Plymouth University Summer Ball 2014. Tariq has also played overseas venues including the Einstein Cafe and Pub in Canada.
Having now set out on a new path, Tariq.B has refocused on an EP which is to be released by the summer of 2015.
His original songs have flavours of classic rock, big ballads, and modern acoustic, with influences such as Led Zeppelin, My Morning Jacket, The Doors, Hendrix, Mick Hucknall of Simply Red and Al Wilson.
Combining his eclectic taste into his music, he brings something new and fresh to the UK.
The final countdown to OXJAM Teignmouth takeover
The final countdown to Oxjam Teignmouth Takeover has begun. On Friday 16th October, Teignmouth’s first ever Oxjam music festival will be taking over the seaside town with great anticipation. The event is being held at Teignmouth Rugby, Football and Supporters Club, between 7pm and midnight, and will host an exciting array of live, local music.
With less than a month to go, final preparations are in full swing and the Oxjam Teignmouth team of music-loving volunteers have a busy, yet exciting time ahead of them. There will be two main stages for the outstanding bands to entertain the masses, with a third stage for acoustic acts to create a fine balance for all musical tastes. In addition to the music there will be the opportunity to bid for some very competitive prizes in a silent auction, and have some funky photos taken in aphoto booth. These activities will add to the fun and spirit of Oxjam, whilst helping to raise even more money for Oxfam GB.
The music line up is truly exceptional; with the likes of Token Joker, One Man Boycott and Teignmouth’s very own Moriaty. The huge intake of band applications has been more dynamic than the Oxjam team could have imagined, especially for the first event of its kind in Teignmouth. Oxjam’s intention of celebrating music in the local community will certainly be the case for Oxjam Teignmouth, as there are so many incredible local bands and musicians. Teignmouth and the surrounding area are definitely blessed with a diverse and talented music scene.
Local business owners of Finley Browns Café, Martin and Faye, said ‘We are very excited for Oxjam to be coming to Teignmouth this year. It is a great opportunity for local musicians, as well as local businesses, to build our community and raise money for such a good cause. We expect Oxjam Teignmouth Takeover to be a great success this year, and hope that next year we can get involved even more as a local venue.’ Finley Browns has already joined forces with Oxjam Teignmouth by providing their café as a venue for the fundraiser ‘The Pied Busker of Teignmouth’ on Saturday 19th September.
The excitement is increasing and all efforts are focused towards making Oxjam Teignmouth Takeover a huge success. Tickets are available from www.wegottickets.com, Teignmouth Oxfam Shop, the Rugby Club, Teignmouth Tourist Information Centre and Finley Browns.
