Info -
Smilex
Boasting an ear splitting career spanning over a decade, Smilex are the
band who have done it all, but show no signs of slowing down as new album
'La Petite Mort' nears release. Several releases on Quickfix Recordings
(who discovered Youthmovies) and spots on various compilations & singles
clubs, including a split ep with The Young Knives & a collaboration with MC
Lars, have made Smilex a band renowned within their native Oxford.
Explosive live shows – betraying a tendency for reckless self-endangerment
coupled with a drive to put the audience's experience above all else – have
led local music bible Nightshift to dub Smilex “Oxford's one band Riot”.
Infamous live antics have caught the eyes and ears of musical types across
the country, earning them the title of Playmusic's “best unsigned live act
of 2010”, whilst securing slots playing beneath (and raising the bar for)
the likes of The Damned, The Datsuns, and The Eighties Matchbox B-Line
Disaster.

'La Petite Mort' rekindles the band's relationship with producer/mixer Ace
of Skunk Anansie and promises to further bolster the band's reputation as a
formidable force, offering a fresh take on all that has came to be known as
'alternative rock'. Combining occasional pop-punk hooks, with the grit of
early Pixies and Jane's Addiction, Smilex offers a dose of nostalgia to
those old enough to remember the alternative rock dominance of the 90's,
whilst introducing all the best bits of the decade to younger listeners.
Far from being yet another derivative rock act however, Smilex have crafted
their own unique brand of rock throughout their career - creating a
matrimony between punk, metal and rock, catering to the taste of anyone who
likes British guitar rock with added blood and guts. Please check out the

After performing to a sold out Classic Grand audience as well as headline shows at a number of other prestigious venues in Scotland, the attention they have gained has resulted in them being invited to support the likes of Ian Skelly from The Coral, as well as Kodaline, and Tom Hingley to name but a few.

Patrick Plunkett

The track recalls influences from Josh Ritter, Cherry Ghost and Bruce Springsteen. It was produced by James Lewis who has worked with Rae Morris, Kristina Train and Superfood. Players on the EP include Ronan McCullagh on guitar, Matthew McKeon on keyboard, bass is Carl Stanbridge, whose credits include working with blues guitarist Matt Schofield and on drums Evan Jenkins (hailing from contemporary jazz outfit, the Neil Cowley Trio)

His debut single Attracting Attention which won praise from many tastemakers within the industry…

“…Plunkett stands out by virtue of the clarity of his vocals and the natural charm and honesty of his music. Top stuff all round...” Laurence Green, Totally Vivid

“…Plunkett’s voice is just brilliant – he has the range of Mraz, but manages to hold onto more power in his wails. A fine singer-songwriter discovery….” Clive Rozario, Access All Areas Music

“…It is refreshing to hear original artists like Patrick and Tom Moriarty out there making good music and restores my faith in the music industry...” whatsgoodtodo.com

Not long after his birth in Paris, Patrick’s family moved to Ireland where he grew up in a rich tradition of songwriters that began to mould his view on music. Patrick learned his craft listening to influences from home like Glen Hansard and Josh Ritter as well as sounds from overseas like David Bowie and The Band. Growing up in Ireland Patrick played in prog rock bands, punk bands, blues bands, pop bands before settling on a singer songwriter style. These experiences helped form the story told in MTV Dream

Unable to resist the allure of a culture rich city and travel Patrick relocated to London in 2006. Since then he has gigged extensively around London, released singles and EPs, and won accolades like reaching the regional semi finals of the Surface Unsigned Competition. He can now be found gigging tirelessly up and down the country to promote his new single MTV Dream.

Patrick plays numerous dates around the UK early this year. For more information visit: www.patrickplunkett.co.uk

David Pheonix

It is a song coming directly from David’s heart: “The song virtually bubbled out of me, as I had fallen in love head over heels. The melody and the lyrics came to me literally in a matter of seconds and I sang the song right away without thinking. It felt like singing a song that I’ve already known for years.“

In the music video of the song we don’t see the artist. That’s the way David wanted to introduce himself to the public: The viewer shall see the world through David’s eyes. Together with the video an ambiguity arises: The great emotions expressed by David Pheonix in his debut single could relate to either his love or his music.

The creation of ambiguity is an intentional instrument used by the artist in order to implement his artistic visions: to play with expectations, which according to David correlate with a play with perception. Therefore, in the music video for a certain amount of time the role of the girl does not reveal exactly who she is: Do we see his real beloved? Do we see his memories? Is she an imagination? A dream?

One scene in the video was shot in the ‘Kaiserkeller‘, a club in Hamburg. David is absolutely excited about this coincidence, as it was “the location where The Beatles had their break through”. It is true, The Beatles’ career started off with their gigs in Hamburg. But with this statement David is alluding also to what Paul McCartney once called the hour of birth of the stamping beat. On an evening in the fall of 1960 the boys from Liverpool did stomp with their feet to the beat with such energy that they managed to have their break through – with their feet they broke through the brittle stage platform, which had to be replaced afterwards.

“Can You Feel How Much I Love You“ is an impressive opening to the world of music and love of David Pheonix, along with other great musicians that can also be heard on David’s track.

This single is David’s first release taken from the EP “This Is My World”. The single and the EP are both being released on February 14, 2014 on the label “EO Records” and will be available to digitally download worldwide from that day on.

Chris Adams

His God father Roger Newell was playing bass for Rick Wakeman and again Chris was taken along to rehearsals and gigs. Chris’s first instrument was the drums but at 12 he switched to guitar, Throughout his school years he would lock himself away in his room and became Jimi Hendrix, later another big influence was David Gilmour.

After leaving school with an award for outstanding achievement in music Chris worked in Boilerhouse studio’s in High Wycombe where he was involved in recording some of the UK’s top artists, Howard Jones, The Sex Pistols to name a few.

Chris also became close friends with Wal, ( the maker of the infamous Wal Bass Guitar ). Wal made instruments for many musicians including Roger Newell, Paul McCartney, Phil Collins and many more.

All of this acted as a huge musical influence on the young Chris Adams and his music can be described as modern soft rock with influences from the classic rock era. A virtuoso guitarist and much of his work features guitar from Classical to rock.

“Chris Adams is perhaps the best guitarist to come out of the UK”
Phil Penny - Radio Trent.

“Phil Keaggy is an amazing guitarist. After three decades in harness, he still retains the ability to play incredible music in almost every conceivable style, from classical to heavy metal. Until now, I have never come across anyone capable of emulating the maestro. But, having heard this album, I am prepared to stick my neck out and suggest that Chris Adams could well be the man to take on the mantle.”
Chris Tozer - Cross Rhythms magazine.

Ivor Game

Ivor was born in Ashford, Middlesex, just to the South West of London. After picking up the guitar aged 10 he was soon writing his songs.

Spells in various bands followed but it was in his 20’s that he found his feet playing solo in the acoustic clubs of London. Tours of Ireland, Los Angeles, Nashville and Europe have followed and to this day Ivor is performing his short sharp acoustic shows across the UK and beyond.

The Life You Know is the new single and is available on iTunes, Amazon and www.ivorgame.com, along with all his other releases.

A video filmed on a crisp London morning is also available on Youtube for his 2013 single Back Seat Driving.

So Called Enemy

West Midlands rockers So Called Enemy are preparing the release of their debut single, ‘Tonight’.
The four-piece, formed in 2008, consists of founding member Ryan Lowry (lead vocals and guitar) with Ollie Basnett (lead guitar), John Cumella (bass) and Jamie Ballard (drums).
The distinctively harmonious alternative single ‘Tonight’ is etched with memorable hooks and riffs, and showcases Lowry’s novel vocal.
As well as that, the dynamics between verse, chorus and otherwise is accomplished with veteran-style skill - keeping an alluring, radio-friendly and absorbing energy throughout the three-minuter.
With pronounced and characterising use of different elements and sounds of the guitar, it adds a sublime addition to a genre which never ceases to please.
Having worked up a reputation for astounding and sensational live performances, the band are announcing tour dates for March soon.
‘Tonight’ is due out on February 3 with an album following later this year.
March tour dates:
